1-31-14 Ivan has been doing well with his change in dog food, a grain-free food along with grain-free treats. The vet has released him to be adopted, as long as he continues on the dog food, treats and supplements that he is doing well with. We have received a deposit to hold Ivan for a meet and greet, sometime in February.
11-15-13 The treatments for Sarcoptic Mange has not made a difference, so we are switching him to a different treatment for Demodectic Mange (not contagious) and a possible food allergy. The food change is to a limited ingredient Turkey based Natural Choice food. Along with the food we are supplementing with selenium, zinc, antibiotics for skin infection, fish oil, coconut oil, Chlorhexidine Shampoo, Ivermectin injections, Revolution applications, and Multi Vitamins. We are trying to keep his treats as Salmon base which should be good for skin and coat. Around his face where he has many scabs we are using Vetericyn Gel. He has been moved into the garage kennel, where he can feel not so isolated and can have bedding and use the Kuranda beds.
11-4-13 Ivan has had multiple vet visits, and he does not have a simple case of fleas, so we are starting with treating for Sarcoptic Mange. The skin scraping did not show either mange mite, and decided to start treatment with the worst case scenario first. Since he was NOT Heartworm tested before leaving the shelter (yet they test the others), he has been tested for Heartworm, Lyme disease, Ehrilichiosis and Anaplamosis, which he tested all negative for, Thank Goodness.
Don't know how his original owner could neglect him in this way, and medical care withheld for an additional two weeks at the shelter, before contacting rescue. It will be a while before Ivan can even interact with the other dogs or us, since he may be contagious. He has such a sweet personality, and just wants to feel better and know that someone cares about his getting well.
10-24-13 Ivan comes into rescue from a Michigan shelter as a stray. Ivan has a long road to recovery due to what the shelter said was a very bad case of fleas. Ivan spent 2 weeks waiting for rescue (only), yet we only found out about him 2 days ago. He has scabs and sores all over his body, hair loss and is underweight. He is a friendly guy in spite of it all.
